Artistic Statement:
“I’ve always been a visual person. Before I create any movement, I imagine in my head what the choreography looks like, what it would feel like, and what it would sound like. My connection to the sound score is usually my first entry into each new piece I create. I discover every, tiny detail of the music making sure I know and feel the intricacies of the music and that those nuances are reflected in my choreography. This process of visually seeing my work before I even develop my movement further allow me to build a strong personal attachment to it. I believe when at a performance, whether one is the dancer or the audience member, both parties, are sharing this personal experience together. Both are constructing and witnessing the art at the same time; co-creating a shared experience. I craft a personal experience as a dance artist by sharing intimate details, relationships, and stories of life by highlighting through circular pathways that travel through high, medium, and low spaces, and creating a continuum of fluidity and physical pathways unique to each body. In doing so, I create unity amongst my dancers, myself, and audience members so, that everyone involved feels that they were a part of this special, magical experience in creating beautiful art to watch, feel, perform, and see.” -Sara Borden
